The McCabe Wave Pump (MWP) is a three-barge floating wave energy
conversion system conceived and developed by Dr. Peter McCabe. The prototype
system is the result of 20 years research and development
by Dr. McCabe and his associates including Dr. Michael E. McCormick,
Professor Emeritus of Ocean
Engineering at the U.S. Naval Academy and Research Professor of Civil
Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University.

The system is ideal for providing potable water for human and animal
consumption and for irrigation in remote communities. There are more
than 100,000 inhabited islands in the world's oceans. In view of the
world’s water crises, it is estimated that the number of MWP
desalination units required in the near future will be between 20,000
and 30,000.
The system shown has an overall length of 40 metres, a
width of 4 metres and a draught of 1.25 metres. The total displacement
is approximately 200 tonnes.
